Towards Grodno via Njavizh, Mir and Novogrudok

I started early in the morning from Minks towards the west - my first stop was the little town of Njasizh famous for the castle. The setting is really beautiful here in the middle of a lake the castle is situated surrounded by a water channel.
It was the hometown of the Radzivili family, that was once owning areas in Lithuania, Poland and Belarus. The castle was designed in the 16 th century rebuild many times and different styles were added. Once the complex had 170 rooms. Here is also the birth place of the Belarusian theatre culture - with an own theathre in the castle that actively gave the spark to the theatre curlture in Belarus

Here also the oldest town hall in Belarus can be found - in 1586 the town got the Magdeburger town degree - that allowed them to erect a town hall

Beside that still small houses can be found in walking distance from the main square

The Corpus Christi church from the 16 th century designed by the Italian architect Bernadoni

The Diana pound in the garden sour rounding the castle

I started my drive towards Mir - a small town 40 km away to visit the next highlight - the Mir castle - listed as UNESCO world heritage. The construction started in 1520 and it was rebuilt many times to a renaissance palace, fell into despair and was renovated in the 1730s and finally had is misuse as a Ghetto during German occupation and then was used as living place for the local population after the war up to 1963... but now it is back to great beauty again

I continued to Navahrudak, a small city on the way to Grodna one of the oldest settlements in the area with the castle, or what is left over of it dating from the 10th century. The small town square below

The Adam-Michiewicz-Haus - the is the writer of "Pan Tadeusz" was born in this city

And finally the remains of the old castle - not much but the view is great

In the evening I arrived in Grodna - I rented an apartment with direct view to the cultural palace of the textile workers - even with a balcony - great value and a good view and made an evening walk - find the combination of tank and church an interesting one

The local Theater overlooking the river

And finally the nice view from my apartment
