Today, a long ride was planned from Brest to Mazir already close to the boarder of Russia - so about 500 km - it took me with a stop in Pinks almost 10 hours and I was really tired in the evening. The first stop was Pinsk, a city founded already in 1079 and has a bit of history to show. It is a cosy little town with a pleasant setting at the shores of the Pina river. One of the most important landmarks is St Francis Monastary constructed around 1711 placed on the spot of a wooden church dating from 1396.
Another building that can be easily spotted is the Jesuit Collegium dating from 1635
Now with the famouse tractor in front that even got a name "captain"
The river Pina
The Butrymowicz palace now freshly restored a bit lost inbetween the new buildings
Normally ships are built for water but here they are built to rest on concrete poles
The so called communist church
Local football heros - thumbs up
Finally I had to say good bye to Mr Lenin and continued on my road
Alongside the road these nasty signs can be seen in the forest - not everywhere but in special areas - reminding of the Tschernobyl catastrophe still
I made a small detour to the Pripyat sky national park - which is well known for its vast marshlands - sadly on Sunday everything was closed so I could not get out with the boat. A stroll around the marsh lands still gave a good impression
In the evening a waiter in Mazir told me in German that he was sent for a year to Germany as a child to recover from the catastrophe and right after the reactor blew up his parents went up Vitebsk - 400 km north and stayed there for 6 month - 30 south of Mazir the radiation safety zone starts and a according to him Mazir is also in this zone but it was polically decided that it is not so ... who knows ....
And finally at 6 pm I arrived in Mazir - after 500 km drive - many speed camera checks, 4 bypassed police controls - on real one - which was a true nice experience - correct and friendly also he was speaking no word Englisch and I no word Russian. Mazir is quite a green town on hills
The vast football stadium of Mazir
The local administration.building
With the road leading to Lenin square - where else ...
The ascent to the wooden castle that stood here once and now is rebuilt - looks a bit like Disney land
The new wooden castle resting on the top of the hill
I found a perfect spot for having a beer and a dinner - right a the Prypiat river
With this view
And this sunset
And finally in the evening a local cat was disturbing my writing activities of my blog ...
