A whole day in Grodno

I woke up in the morning in my nice apartment and looked out of the window and it was raining cats and dogs - bad luck I thought and started off it got a bit better until I reached the old castle but after 1 hour I gave up und tested the espresso level in town - after the third espresso I went home to get dry and  have a hot shower -  I started again in the afternoon when still thick cloudes where up in the sky but after I visited a church suddenly blue sky was visible and the sun came through the clouds - bad luck again as I now tried to get the shots in the sun I missed in the morning - lots of additinal walking - but enjoyable in the sun

The bridge to the old castle or what is left of - pretty run down but there is a sign that they want to rebuilt it in the way it was - good morning disney world

In former times this was a wooden bridge but surely at this time the stairs below were not called stairs of the lovers as they are called today

The former entrance to the Jewish Ghetto

The music school of Grodna

The obligatory war memorial this time with nice flags

The St. Mary's church when I went in and ...

After I came out - what a difference ...

Inside the church

One of the craftsmen houses with the fasade built of stone and the back of wood

The church on university grounds

The Maxim Bodanovich literary house - where this famous Belarusian poet lived in

The Lijamus in Grodna

The former house of the administrator

Right in the middle of the city still old houses can be found looking a bit lost

The Soviet street - now pedestrian zone neetly renovated

Vie to the Franz-Xaver cathedral

Well, the building on the left of the cathedral looks like what it is - a prison - it was once the monastery of the church where monks where kept - now prisoners - slight change but still...

The Franz- Xaver Cathedral in from view

The charptovic palace now a museum

The home of the fire brigade with the former watchtower

And a splendid painting

The brand new restored main Synagoge of Grodna

With the interior completely restored

The new palace in Barock style now a museum

View from the castle

Over the river to the former franciskus monastery

The stone bridge connecting the old and the new castle

The Kaloza church on the river banks - that is the reason why only parts of it survived - the oldest church in Belarus dating from the 15 th century

And for the end of the day I crossed the bridge to get a snapshot from the other side - with the evening light a truly well invested footwork

The Franciscan monastery

Tomorrow I will go south towards Brest - keep you posted
